The new Mk.6 mains conditioner was in action at the Bristol Sound and Vision show and helped Neat Acoustics win the BFA Best Stereo Demonstration award. Neat used a clever combination of acoustic panels and the James Audio power conditioner to overcome some of the main barriers to good quality sound at a hi-fi show.
Mains noise factors
There are a number of factors that are likely to increase the chances of you having problems with noise on your mains supply. The aim of this page is to give you an insight into these and to help you decide whether you will benefit from using the James Audio mains conditioner with your hi-fi or home theatre system.
One thing we are always clear on is that not everyone is affected to the same extent. We have tested the power conditioner with systems that have been seriously under performing due to bad mains and we have also tried it with systems that have a very clean supply and are hardly affected. We have been able to hear benefits from the conditioner in both of these systems but we only consider it to be a worthwhile investment if you have significant mains noise. If your mains supply is good, spend your money on more music and be thankful for your good fortune.
If you live :
In a flat or apartment complex;
-
In a densely populated urban area;
-
Next to or near industrial units or factories;
-
Far away from your electrical sub-station;
-
With noisy home appliances such as computer equipment, dimmer switches, equipment with electric motors...
... any of these increases your probability of experiencing mains noise issues.
If you find that the performance of your equipment varies at different times of the day or week and is at its best late at night or at the weekend, this is a good indicator that you are suffering the effects of mains noise.
